The government of St. Petersburg plans to build floating hotels on Neva river to host guests of the 2018 FIFA World Cup, the city's tourism chief said.

According to Andrei Mushkarev, the boat hotels will be created near the Krestovsky stadium and other locations without a lot of hotels. The authorities plan to build the hotels with 30-500 rooms capability on 12 sites.

St. Petersburg was built in the delta of Neva river on a few dozen islands. Today, the city is one of Russia's top tourist attractions. Last year, it was visited by 2.8 million foreign tourists.

The city will host several 2018 FIFA World Cup events, including a semifinal and a third place match.
