Russian women’s mini-football team was wearing hijabs playing against Iran in Tehran, the Russian mini-football association said.
“We played in hijabs in solidarity with the country’s traditions”, the coach said.
Evgeniy Kuzmin added that matches against the Iranian national team became a tradition. “Our girls get used to playing in hijabs”, he said.
The first match was tied 3:3. The Russian national team won the second 5:3.
In Iran, all women are required to wear hijabs, including during sport matches. These standards also apply to foreign athletes.
