Authorities in Russia’s Mordovia are expecting about 50,000 people to visit the city during the 2018 FIFA World Cup, the chairman of the republic’s government said.

“Mordovia is expecting 10,000 tourists to arrive by plane, 18,000 by train and 24,000 by car due to 2018 FIFA World Cup,” Vladimir Sushkov said.

Saransk will host four group stage matches of the World Cup. Mordovia Аrena stadium will be ready by September 2017.

The Republic of Mordovia is a federal subject of Russia. Mordvins, an indigenous Uralic ethnic group close to Finns and Hungarians, are the majority of its population. Saransk is one of 11 Russian cities hosting the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
