FIFA executives expressed concern about vibration of the football field at Krestovsky stadium in St. Petersburg that will host FIFA 2018 matches, local media reported.

FIFA Director of Competitions Colin Smith and chief inspector Christian Unger arrived in St. Petersburg on October 31 to check the venue. To surprise of the Russian organizing committee, the officials started jumping on the stadium's unique roll-out field that can be moved out of the main bowl. Smith and Unger found out that the surface was bouncing and said it was unacceptable. 

Fontanka.ru publication cited Russian construction technicians who said FIFA was aware of the vibrations at least a year ago, but never raised concerns.

Specialists are discussing ways to fix the field until the opening match of the 2017 Confederations Cup to be held on June 17, 2017.

Krestovsky stadium has been under construction for about a decade. It will have a capability of hosting over 68,000 fans.
