When you think of Russian cities, you recall Moscow first, then comes St. Petersburg, and then… Ekaterinburg is fighting for the right to become Russia’s third city after the two capitals – and has every chance to win.
Ekaterinburg (also spelled Yekaterinburg) is located near the Ural Mountains that divide Europe and Asia. For more than two centuries, it has been the industrial backbone of Russia. Today, it is an important industrial and cultural center with population over 1.4 million. It’s the only Russian city aside from Moscow that has a skyscraper.
The city will host four matches of the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia. Ekaterinburg Arena stadium has over 35,000 seats. Originally built in 1953, it has been reconstructed for the 2018 FIFA World Cup. The design includes nods to the Soviet Neo-Classic architecture.
Although the city has modern infrastructure, it’s hard to imagine film and TV production there without a local partner. Soar Productions has facilitated several projects around Ekaterinburg.
