Vladimir’s glory ended in 1238, when it was captured and burned to the ground by the Mongols.

Vladimir is located just 194 km (120 mi) from Moscow. It takes about three and a half hours on a vehicle to get there. There is an airport in Vladimir region, but it operates flights only to St. Petersburg.

During the times of Russian Empire, Vladimir was one of the most developed regions. The first telegraph was opened there in 1858, the first railroad in 1861 and the first power plant in 1896;

Isaac Levitan, a classical Russian landscape painter lived in Vladimir in 1892. Some of his most famous paintings were made there;
