Filming in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky of Kamchatsky region

Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky is the capital of the «volcano kingdom» - Kamchatsky region. In 25 km from the city there’s a range of five volcanos, two of which are active - Avachinsky and Koryaksky. Kamchatka landscapes mesmerize everyone, who reached this region. Huge solidified lava, «moon landscapes, caves, mysterious Dead Forest - are the results of the Plosky Tolbachik volcano eruption in 2012-2013.

The city is situated at the Kamchatka peninsula on the shores of Avachinskaya bay in the Pacific Ocean in 6 770 km from Moscow. One can reach the main city, Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, only by plane. It takes around 8 hours from Moscow and 3 hours 15 minutes from Vladivostok.  

Climate 

Temperature differences during the year are not that high - in August average daily temperature is +12,4 °C (54 °F), and in January - 7,7 °C (18 °F).

History 

The first cossacks came here in 1679. They founded here a stockade town and and granaries. And in 1740 Alexey Chirikov’s and Vitus Bering’s expedition of two ships «St. Paul» and «St. Peter» came to the Kamchatka land. The names of the ships were given to the town and it became Petropavlovsk.

Interesting events  

Volcano day.

Each year during the summer period and the feet of Avachinsky and Kozelsky volcanoes the Volcano day celebrations take place. Thousands of people gather to go 2500 m up.

«Beringiya» dog sled race.

Snow, glittering in the sun, endless Kamchatka spaces, loud barking of the dogs - welcome to «Beringiya» - a challenge for those with powerful spirit. Today the track is 1110 km. Traditionally there are 8-14 dogs in the sled and it is very rough for them. They pull weight over a 100 kg including the weight of the musher. The race continues the ancient northern tradition with the dogs playing main part. For them it is a regular life, which they love a lot. It’s no secret, that they carry wood, hay, fish and their owners.

Natural attractions 

Avachinskaya Bay - a part of the great Pacific Ocean near the Tri Brata (Three Brothers) Rock - is a landmark of the city, Starichkov island, the gateway to the ocean.

Khalaktyrsky beach - 12 km of black sand and sergers in dry-suits at any weather.

Small geyser valley - a very beautiful unforgettable place near the geothermal station on the way to the Mutnovsky volcano. Geysers and steam vents are just a small part of the local surreal landscapes.

Mutnovsky volcano. The hight of the volcano is 2322 meters above the sea level. The activity of the volcano can be noticed at once - it is impossible not to see the steam, that can be a kilometer high. The short distance from the city and the opportunity to shoot the volcano activity make this place very advantageous for the shoot.
